QUIC Wants Your Photos!
QUIC believes that sharing the excitement of your international experiences with others, whether you are an international student commenting on your impression of life in Canada, or a Canadian student who has had an invaluable experience abroad, is an important step in the building of understanding, appreciation and enjoyment across cultures and peoples. We are really excited to host the International Photo Contest at QUIC for the very first time. Share your photos with us and have the chance to: Win the Grand Prize of $100.00 Win a host of other prizes donated by Kingston community restaurants, cafes, and shops Have your photo(s) enlarged and displayed at QUIC at the Gala Exhibition on March 12, 2009 from 4 - 7 p.m.
Who Can Participate? Everyone! The International Photo Contest is open to: ALL International and Domestic students ALL Undergraduate and Graduate students Students who have lived, studied, worked, volunteered or traveled abroad within the past two years Students who would like to share an international experience in Canada or from a country of origin
Photo Submission Categories There will be five categories for which photo submissions will be accepted: 1. People and Culture 2. Landscape (including nature and wildlife) 3. Student Life 4. My Home Away from Canada 5. What Canada Means to Me Please note that all categories are relevant to International and Canadian students.
Submission Guidelines Each participant is allowed to submit a total of two different photos, but they must be in two separate categories. Photographs must be of high resolution, but no larger than 3.5 MB Photos must be taken by you We will not accept party photos If you are submitting photos of other people, you must receive verbal confirmation from each individual within the photo By submitting your photos and statements to the International Photo Contest, you thereby authorize the Queen's University International Centre (QUIC) and Queen's University to use the photos and/or statements attached on the QUIC and Queen's University websites, in addition to other material produced for promotional and informational purposes. Students will be credited for their submissions if and when used.
Submission Requirements Deadline Date for Submission - Friday 27 February, Midnight Submit your photos (max of 2 different photos - 1 photo per category) to: quicphotocontest@hotmail.com Please provide the following personal information with your submission: Your name Your e-mail address The name of your photo The specific category you wish to place your photo in A brief description of what prompted you to take the photo (no more than 100 words) A brief statement on what this photo means to you (no more than 150 words)
What Happens Next? A panel of five judges from Queen's and the Kingston community will choose winners in each category and also three overall winners. The following judges will be choosing winning photos: Director of Agnes Etherington Art Gallery Representative from Camera Kingston Executive Director of the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS) President of the Alma Mater Society (AMS) An International Student with a strong background in Photography If you are a winner, or if we wish to display your photograph, you will be informed by e-mail by the second week of March. Your photo will then be enlarged, printed and displayed at QUIC at our Gala Exhibition and Opening Reception, and displayed at QUIC for some time following the Reception. The Gala Exhibition and Reception will take place on Thursday, March 12, 4 - 7pm at QUIC. All prize winners will be given awards at the Gala Exhibition. A People's Choice Award will also be chosen at this event from the displayed photos.
