Board of Trustees Representative

Tony Gkotsis   -  trustee@sgps.ca

The Board of Trustees is one of three governing bodies of the university, along with the Senate and the University Council, all of which are administered by the University Secretariat. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall operations of the University, including overseeing financial matters, property, the appointment of Vice-Principals and, in conjunction with the Senate, the appointment of the Principal. The Board of Trustees has 44 members: three ex-officio, one appointed by the Queen's Theological College and 40 elected. The Board of Trustees functions through a standing committee structure consisting of eight committees. The SGPS Trustee is elected by the students for a term of two years.

Graduate Student Senator

Terry Bridges   -  senator@sgps.ca

There are many challenges facing the SGPS membership in the near future. Budget cuts, tuition increases, the dismantling of existing academic programs, dwindling funding, lack of policies for teaching fellows, and threats to the democratic decision making process all require committed student participation at Queen's University. The Senate offers one space for students to collectively help shape policies that work to the advantage of the University's main constituencies -- graduate, undergraduate, and professional students, as well as faculty. It's important that student representatives remain responsive and transparent in the interest of facilitating active involvement in the existing democratic institutions. I encourage all SGPS members to participate in their departments, at SGPS Council, and to press your representatives at Senate and elsewhere to advocate for issues important to you.
